Elba Island LNG Import Termial

El Paso Energy - Savannah, Georgia

In 2008, Elba Island was a facility owned and operated by Southern LNG.  Its purpose was to offload liquefied natural gas (LNG) from ships into storage tanks.  Then the LNG would be compressed and vaporized and sent into a nearby pipeline for consumption.  I worked on an expansion project that significantly increased the facility's throughput and storage capabilities.

Shortly after commissioning, the price of natural gas dropped so much (primarily due to hydraulic fracturing), that the facility stopped importing and has since been in the works to begin exporting LNG.
