Small Package Sorter

Installed in 2016, this combination of singulation and sortation can accurately (99.98% or 1 in 5000) sort small packages to upwards of 300 destinations at a rate of 10,000 packages per hour.  The installation in Riverside California was the first of many such installations all over the US.  The primary challenge was accurately tracking packages along the entire ~200 foot long conveyor belt using a 0.5 inches per pulse encoder and a Rockwell Automation ControlLogix L75 processor.  Some clever techniques were used to ensure that the processing time was not exceeded (no task overlaps).

Ultimately the project was a huge success and is still in operation today.
